Gentoo 2012-01 Images and Templates for Xen, KVM, VMWare and SolusVM PV

Downloads of 64-bit Gentoo Linux are now available for Xen, VMWare, KVM, SolusVM Xen PV and XCP. As with our Arch templates this version does not correspond to an official release upstream (rolling distros are less release oriented). Informally we are planning bi-yearly "releases" of Gentoo in January and July. x86 (32-bit) Gentoo images will no longer be built due to a lack of demand.

Arch Linux 2012-01 Images and Templates for Xen, KVM and VMWare

Downloads of 64-bit Arch Linux (Xfce Desktop and CLI versions) are now available for Xen, VMWare and KVM. We have also created a SolusVM XEN PV template with the caveat that ArchLinux is not explicitly supported by the control panel. Arch implements a rolling release and this version does not correspond to an official release upstream (which tend to be very sporadic). Informally we are planning bi-yearly releases of Arch in January and July.

CentOS 6.2 Images and Templates Available For Xen, SolusVM Xen PV, KVM, VMWare and XCP

A mere ten days after releasing 6.1, the CentOS project has released version 6.2. We have now released lightweight images for Xen, XCP, VMWare, KVM and SolusVM on x86 and x86_64. Additional downloads (Desktops) are available for Xen, VMWare, KVM and SolusVM. Since CentOS is now in sync with the upstream vendor release we have not included the centos-release-cr package in these templates.

SolusVM Template Users:The kernel used by CentOS 6.1 and later has changed the way sda block device names are mapped. All SolusVM users who do not default to xvda site-wide should read the notes on the template download page as well as consult the kernel howto to implement the appropriate overrides. Essentially it is now mandatory to use xvda* device names in the vm config file since sda* will be (mis)mapped by the kernel.

CentOS 6.1 Images and Templates Available For Xen, SolusVM Xen PV, KVM and VMWare

The CentOS project has released version 6.1; we have bundled lightweight images for Xen, XCP, VMWare, KVM and SolusVM on x86 and x86_64. Additional downloads (Desktops) are available for Xen, VMWare and KVM. Note: Because the upstream vendor has already released version 6.2, we have enabled the CentOS CR repository, which will allow users to get updated 6.2 packages as the CentOS team makes them available.

OpenSuse 12.1 Images And Templates for KVM, Xen and VMWare

The OpenSuse project released version 12.1 on Nov 16th. We have created x86_64 lightweight images for Xen, KVM and VMWare and x86 images for KVM and VMWare. The fully-virtualized images have now been explicitly build and tested with virtio as well as legacy emulation (eg SCSI, IDE). We have also enabled the acpid daemon to enable lifecycle control from various management systems. The net effect is to make the qcow2 images more manageable and efficient with the new crop of KVM control panels. Please follow the links to download:

SolusVM 1.8.00 Now Supports Scientific Linux for Xen PV

SolusVM has added support for EL-derivative Scientific Linux to the list of supported distros on Xen PV. This new feature was formally introduced in version 1.8.00 earlier this week. For now we have added a x86_64 Scientific template but more may be added in the future. As always please read the Notes section on the download page for deployment advice....

CentOS Project Has Announced 6.1 CR Repository

The CentOS 6.1 CR repository is online, allowing CentOS 6.0 users to begin using the new packages ahead of the official 6.1 release.

Update 2011-09-30: The new kernel (2.6.32-131.12.1.el6) has finally landed in the CR repo. We have confirmed that it does use the new sda -> xvde mapping code.

SolusVM CentOS 6 Xen PV template users should implement the changes in an advisory we published in mid-July regarding a kernel change in the EL 6.1 series that impacts block device mapping under Xen PV for CentOS 6.1 guests. The essence of this change is that the vm config file for all CentOS 6 virtual servers should use xvda* nodes. If you are already using xvda naming by default then nothing is required. If you are using sda naming by default you will need to override that behavior for each CentOS 6 template you have deployed. For reference here is what your CentOS 6 VM config files should look like:
